South Korean scientists on Wednesday (07/27/2011), stated that they managed to create a glowing dog through cloning techniques. The dog is expected to help other scientists find a cure deadly diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
Genetically modified female dog named Tegon was born in 2009. Dogs can be issued a green color when given the antibiotic doxycycline. According to scientists, the dog's ability to produce light can be activated or deactivated by adding food to the food drug.
"The creation Tegon opens new horizons for the injected genes to create a glowing dog can be substituted by a gene that spurs deadly disease in humans," said Byeong-Chun Lee, one of the researchers, as quoted by FoxNews.
Chun Lee says, Tegon created by somatic cell nuclear transfer technique is also used to create another dog named Snuppy the Afghan hound in 2005. Creation of a dog to find treatments for important diseases of dogs and humans have 283 kinds of diseases are similar.
According to South Korean news agency, Yonhap, the experiment of making these dogs cost about 3 million U.S. dollars (equivalent to Rp 25 billion) and spent the next 4 years. The results of research scientists is published this month in the journal Genesis.
