Fireworks Lift NBC

NBC topped the ratings on Monday, a night of mostly repeats and holiday programming, as the annual “Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular” attracted its most viewers in 11 years. According to Nielsen’s estimates 8.6 million people tuned in to the NBC broadcast at 9 p.m., more than for any other program on the night and up from 6.9 million viewers a year ago. CBS ranked second for the night, leading the 10 p.m. hour with its own Fourth of July special, “Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular,” which drew 6.6 million viewers, outperforming a repeat of NBC’s special in the hour (5.3 million) and a repeat of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition” (3 million). ABC, in third place, averaged 3.1 million viewers from 8 to 10 for a rerun of “The Bachelorette” while Fox was fourth with repeats of “MasterChef” (2.3 million) and “House” (1.5 million).
