The power cord is accused of a fire Friday morning at the Library of Congress Madison Building.
According to a spokesman for Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, DC-area electricity provider Pepco was doing the work in the building, and a power line caught fire.
Jennifer Gavin, a Senior Public Affairs with the Library of Congress, said he was "power surge" in an electrical room.
"But it's out, and the building was evacuated successfully," he said. "I'm not aware of any injuries."
According to Gavin, and several firefighters at the scene, the fire broke out around 9:40 in the basement of the building.
Schneider said the emergency services responded immediately. At least six DC Fire engines screamed to the construction of two truck scale, such as firefighters sprint inside. The Capitol Police K-9 teams were on hand as well.
Roads around the building was closed more than a dozen fire trucks remained the Capitol Police and emergency vehicles at the scene.
Employees in the building at the time of the incident reported flashing lights, and the Internet down. They were then ordered to evacuate the building and were allowed to return at 10.30
