$319M Mega Millions winner claims ticket

The single ticket that won the $319M Mega Millions last Friday has been claimed, as told by a lottery spokesperson to reports on Tuesday, March 29, 2011.

As reported earlier, the single winning ticket, 22, 24, 31, 52, 54 and Mega Ball 4, and the first single winning ticket to win the biggest prize, have been sold in Coulson’s News Center, in New York.

Apparently, there had been rumors that the winning ticket was owned by seven IT specialists from the Division of Housing and Community Renewal of New York, but lottery officials have not confirmed the report.

“The claimed winning ticket is under authentication of the New York Mega Millions,” New York Lottery spokeswoman Carolyn Hapeman told reports.

“The announcement of the winner or winners is being expected to be done in a press conference this coming Thursday morning.” Hapeman added, noting that the prize money will be collected on Monday morning in the lottery office at Schenectady, New York.

If the $319M lottery prize will be collected in cash, the winner or winners will receive a one-time, lump sum payment of $202.9 million.
